The movers

One thing I've been asked repeatedly in the last 9 days is whether we will move ourselves or have the Air Force move us.

We knew if our time to PCS ever came, we already planned to have the movers come and move it all. We decided this the day that we moved into our current apartment. We live in a basement apartment of an old building that did not used to house apartments, but rather offices and maybe some local switchboard phone equipment.

Moving all of this heavy furniture up and down the twisting, turning hallways, the insane amount of stairs and through the bedroom window that faces the parking lot made my husband realized that we would never move out of here again unless movers came to do it.

People seem horrified that we're not doing a DITY (Do IT Yourself) move. The military pays you a lot of money if you move your own crap. Well sorry to disappoint everyone. They're going to have to pay their movers more than what they'd have paid us because we're not moving this stuff even if it means we don't profit. There is more to life than profiting off of everything.

I don't want to have to worry about what to do with the stuff and finding people who we don't even know to help us move in at the next base. I've moved an average of 1-2 times a year in the last 10 years and have always done it myself. Not this time. If the AF wants to hire movers and do it themselves, they are more than welcome to, though it would be at a financial loss to us.

And for those who are so horrified that we're passing up the money in favor of letting the military move us....well, feel free to come over here and pack it up yourself and move it in yourself at the new place...we'll split the money with you 50/50 :)

  1. ha...I don't blame you one bit. I'd be doing the same thing, moving is stressful. An added stress that you don't need to have since someone else can and will do it for you :)
